windows

they say that eyes are the windows to a person's soul... i'm really drawn to photographing eyes and when i take a photo i always try to make the point of focus on the eyes which is something my sensei taught me.

i took this photo as a part of a project i was doing in a course. the theme was portraiture, we had to take a photo of someone in a way that describes what they meant to me as a person and my relationship with them. my subject is a close friend of mine who brings sunshine and laughter into my world 4 days of the week. when she's not around the world is grey and dull. she has the most beautiful eyes that are framed by the prettiest longest lashes i've ever seen! if you look into her eyes, you can see just how beautiful her soul is... she is the most generous person i know...

rediscovering old passions

things i loved growing up....

1. watches: i was probably 3 or 4 years old and a watch was the first & only thing i ever wanted. the first one I got (which i still have) was an analog, wind-up one with a mouse on it and his hands were the hands of the watch. i wore it until i was in primary school until it stopped working. i'd even had the band on it changed a few times before it died. i now have it in my treasures with a bright yellow wristband on it (well it was the 80's!). it was succeeded by a digital digital casio with a red wristband. i don't have this watch anymore but remember I used to sleep with it on. since that time, i've gone through many watches and now favour analog men's style watches with metal wristbands. i've never been able to bring myself to buying a luxury branded timepiece because other passions have taken precedence but its on my bucket list. top of the list of brands i'd check out to buy from would be: panerai; oris; breitling; & at the top of the list... iwc or blancpain & vintage would make it so much better too!

2. vintage/old school things: this lurve began when i first visited my school friend, kate's home which was on regent street in my hometown in the hunter valley where i grew up. we were in 3rd grade & went to visit her house after school & even tho her parents were still renovating it... i fell in love with the old hardwood floorboards, the stained glass windows & the general vintage look & feel around the place...... thanks kate, because of u.... i've discovered my own little bungalow (even tho i'm sure ur parent's place would be a victorian which is even more vintage!)

3. photography: since i picked up my dad's nikorrmat around my early high school years & heard that mechanical movement of the shutter & the sweet sounding "click" that i created by pressing on the shutter release I've wanted it for myself. even tho i've now got my own collection of photographic equipment with film & digital cameras (nikon, of course!). i still yearn for the nikorrmat that began my life's passion with photography. in senior year high school, i dropped 4U math to take photography! however, when i went to uni, i let my brain take over my heart & photography took a back seat

4. guitar: the sound of a guitar solo it would always mesmerise me into a trance, even more so would be an accoustic guitar & melodious voice. at night in the dark of my room i'd listen to my cd's playing from my dad's old hitachi stereo. the speakers on that little thing from the 70's was clear & sweet sounding. it would be the time that i let my thoughts & dreams just fly away......
